About the school

History

This school started as an annex of Maypajo Elementary School  way back in 1960. It had Grades I, II, III classes in existence. From the records lifted, it tells that all the classrooms used by the pupils were houses rented from kind hearted folks in the community of Lerma. It was an uncomfortable and sad plight but because education mattered most, the teachers had to contend with then situation and with the resources at hand.

And so as the community’s population grew bigger, the problem of  accommodating more school children mounted, hence Lerma Primary School stood on its own since 1961-1962. Time passed not noticeably and pupils' enrollment steadily increased. The number of teachers increased too. The intricacies of holding classes at the back of Lerma Basketball Court did not hamper the thirteen (13) teachers activities from performing their role and functions. Their very first Principal was Mr.  Filomeno Cruz.

Many years had passed and it was in 1973 when Dr. Modesta G. Boquiren in one of her Superintendent’s visit to the school, took notice of battling with rental fees, temporary classrooms and shelters. To the delight of everybody she frontier the idea that community folks, the teacher and the School Head must moved mountains- to seek a safe and secure refuge for the school children – a school they would call it- “ their very own”.  Constant prayers, endless searches and the hope to see the bright future led these academician to appeal to good people. Thus, in 1980 under the City Mayor of Caloocan, Hon.Virgilio P. Robles , a good Samaritan and education crusader Dr. Salustiano Castillo donated an estate near the school.  Mayor Robles personally handpicked Lerma Elementary School to be given the sole authority and privilege to use the parcel of land for the schoolchildren.  While Dr. Rosario C. de Ocera was then the Principal, she vigorously and conscientiously took the effort to work for the legalities and technicalities of proposed school together with teachers.

Many principals had come and had gone sacrificing themselves to settle for the finality of owning a lot through a donation until a closure came with the management and full representation of Mrs. Lily R. Leaño and school site, the buildings, the facilities and equipment, pupil’s needs and textbook etc. were finally attained. The issues of renting and lobbying for a permanent school sites, and the  taking of appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all and clearly the final responsibility of the school, were realized through the effort of the assigned principals.
